Menstrupedia

Menstrual Awareness Comic

INVESTMENT DETAILS

Menstrupedia, founded in 2012, appeared on the 6th episode of the Indian version of Shark Tank Season 01. The company, known for its comic books and content aimed at educating girls about menstruation, has reached 15 million girls through collaborations with schools, NGOs, and governments. They offer two primary comics for puberty education: "Menstrupedia" for girls and "Gulu" for boys.

The co-founders sought ₹50 lakhs in exchange for 10% equity to develop a mobile app to enhance the accessibility of their content. In 2020, Menstrupedia's revenue was approximately ₹1.15 crores, with 40% stemming from a partnership with 'Stayfree'.

Namita Thapar began the discussion by expressing her prior knowledge of the product and her interest in leveraging her pharma distribution chain to promote it. Consequently, she made the first offer for 25% equity. However, Ashneer suggested they expand into the sanitary pad market to boost revenue, but the founders preferred to focus on their core mission of content and education.

Ultimately, Namita Thapar secured the deal, acquiring 20% equity for ₹50 lakhs
